The hardboiled detective styled-anime combines crime solving, humor, action, and a fair share of fantasy to create an entertainingly bizarre story. The quirky cast members are each based on real-life authors, and their abilities named after their most famous works, which makes for an intriguing ensemble. Despite lots of comedic moments, the overall story world is quite dark.
Like other members of the Agency, Dazai holds utmost regard towards the President. Given his laid-back attitude, Dazai would choose to carry out the President’s tasks even during times of utter boredom. In a similar way, the President would personally participate in Dazai’s schemes in the most vital scenarios. One such case is Kyōka’s entrance exam, which was planned by Dazai and Ranpo to have the President activate his ability on and save their newest official member during the process. Along the course of events, Dazai serves as a mentor figure towards Atsushi.
Akiko is also a feminist who hates male chauvinism, which is very alike to her real-life counterpart who was noted as one of the most controversial post-classical poets of Japan. Kenji Miyazawa is a member of the Armed Detective Agency and has the ability “Be not Defeated by the Rain.” He Woosa is based on the author Kenji Miyazawa who was a novelist and poet. His most famous poem is namedAme ni mo makezu,which is also his ability in the series. Flawlessis a book written by him, as well as his fictional counterparts’ ability that allowed him to see a few seconds into the future.
” Kunikida muttered, his eyes trained on Chuuya’s back suspiciously. I didn’t take him out for a walk this morning— you know how it goes! ” Dazai reassured Kunikida with a brilliant smile plastered on his face. For the Great Fitzgerald to take effect, Francis needs to verbalize the amount of money he spends. After the declaration, green markings appear on his body, signaling the ability’s activation.
I can’t say much about the plot as its not finished yet and we are only getting quarter of the story but the first 3 seasons are pretty good the animation is slick but i like it . The characters are written well, not the best but overall its a good anime its pretty underrated. Bungou Stray Dogs is pretty much a show that can be watched by anyone from the start without any knowledge of literature.
In truth, Dazai had wished to test a theory whether Atsushi can take on the mantle of being half of a new Twin Dark with Akutagawa, in order to prepare for the “real catastrophe” lurking within Yokohama. Despite their boisterous partnership, Dazai and Kunikida grew to share a mutual trust towards each other, quite apparent during cases in the field. Even during their first time as partners in the Agency, Dazai’s instincts especially during combat complimented Kunikida’s, such as when they respectively fought a big man and a blond man. After figuring out that they had to switch foes, it merely took calling out to each other to signal and acknowledge their similar plan, resulting to their victory. In the anime, Atsushi witnesses Dazai and Kunikida collaborate together and praises their complementary dynamic. The Armed Detective Agency and most of the characters are named after popular Japanese authors, which include Ranpo Edogawa, Junichirō Tanizaki, Kenji Miyazawa, Akiko Yosano, Yukichi Fukuzawa, Kyōka Izumi, and Katai Tayama, among others.
The title fits perfectly with the anime- Stray dogs which in the anime signifies the people who are lost or donot have someone who can take care of them. The whole Port Mafia and The detective agency rivalry and thier love for their city is amazing. The animation and the different supernatural abilities are just epic.
The characters are unique, likable, and funny, presenting plenty of contrast between the major characters to make for some hilarious situations. “deus ex machina” factor can get in the way, the episodes where they explained the conclusions character came to or explained how a problem was solved were much more fulfilling. Some shortcuts in the animation when dealing with characters seem from a distance, not a fan. Every season of Bungou Stray Dogs features 12 episodes, and season 4 being an exception is unlikely. According to rumors, Bungou Stray Dogs season 4 will be released sometime in 2022.
However, their friendship started to collapse when Ango was uncovered to be a triple spy in the Mafia and the Special Division. Dazai confessed to Ango and Oda that he knew very well about the intrinsic probability of losing the ones he does not wish to lose the most, hence anticipating such thing to happen anytime in his life. Then the show started following the story about the happenings around Atsushi and his team as they try to solve peculiar cases by Osamu’s detective agency, which is called the Armed Detective Agency. Bungou Stray Dogs story was based on the supernatural thing and focused on the group of young detectives who use their supernatural power and a singular focus on a boy named Atsushi Nakajima who is the main protagonist of the series.
Atsushi has light grey hair that does not have a speck of black of it in the anime, but in the manga and light novels, he has a prominent strand of black hair. This may have been taken out due to preference or animation issues, but it is a trait that makes him stand out in the manga. Atsushi was inspired by the real author, Atsushi Nakajima, who died at age 33 from severe asthma and pneumonia on December 4, 1942. Their relationship was complicated, to say the least, with Dazai acting as more of a proper father figure than Atsushi’s adoptive one. If Atsushi had an adoptive father, why does he live in the orphanage?
Sometimes its great, and one can see the effort and thought put behind the making of it. But often its cheesy and seems like it follows a recipe that worked in the past and it ruins it completely. Grown men acting like children and is portrayed in a intellectual light yet if one ponders what they are actually saying and doing it falls flat. Its not a good way of portraying protagonists and antagonists. The series fails to reveal the horror of nihilism when many of the protagonists supposedly suffer from it. I’ve seen almost 3 seasons and I don’t recommend this to anyone.

Elise is fast and strong and can’t be killed, but her appearance depends on Mori’s strength at a particular time, meaning that his weakness or sickness can prevent him from using this ability. This interesting ability is derived from the 1909 erotic novel also called Vita Sexualis. Although this ability comes with certain limitations, like its inability to tamper with what witnesses have seen or heard at a crime scene, it is still capable of doing a lot of damage.
Dazai appeared respectful towards the Mafia veteran and even warned him not to fight Chūya during their encounter after figuring out his gravity manipulation ability. Eventually, Dazai accepted the offer to join the Mafia, much to Mori’s pleasure. He was immediately given command over a unit and a job, which was to dispose their erstwhile adversaries. In his time as Mafia executive, the young Dazai was taught various war strategies by Mori himself, including tactics studied by Schelling, Nash, and Kissinger. Moreover, despite his natural genius and intimidating aura, Dazai erstwhile felt to be walking on blades whenever he talked with Mori, aware how one minute mistake could possibly throw him off the path. Though Akutagawa was initially reluctant of Dazai’s offer and even attacked him with his ability, Dazai promised to give him anything he wished for, despite not guaranteeing that it would be an easy path to undertake.
Pets belonging to playable Sims will also visit lots in the same way that strays do, without their owners. Naomi sometimes acts as Fukuzawa’s assistant, being present during Fukuzawa’s meeting with Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald in the Agency office.
